As Chief Conservation Officer for Twycross Zoo in the Midlands, UK, my aim is to maximise the conservation impact that modern zoos can have, through ex-situ population management, community engagement for behaviour change, and support of wild population protection and species threat reduction worldwide. Motivated by a love of nature from a very young age, I studied for a BSc and Masters degree in zoology and a PhD in conservation and ecology. Starting my zoo career as an educator at Chester Zoo, UK, 17 years ago, I now bring experience of many elements of conservation charity zoo management, from ex-situ and in-situ species management, conservation science, environmental education, welfare and husbandry, and impact measurement. I currently support our international zoo community in roles including EAZA Vice Chair, Chair of the Population Management Advisory Group, and EEP Coordinator for the Ecuadorian amazon parrot, Amazona lilacina.
