Elaine will give an overview of Wild Africa, a new habitat development within Monarto Safari Park, South Australia. This development is taking the concept of open range to another level. At 560 hectares in size (1400 acres) it is a very big area that has largely been built in house. There are 45 kilometres of fencing, 24 kilometres of safari tracks, over 100,000 trees have been planted, 8 waterholes created and it will house about 500 animals across 14 species.
Her presentation will cover the development process as well as animal management considerations when managing species in such a large area. Elaine will also tempt you with a future visit as she gives an overview of the visitor accommodation and tour experiences that will be offered. She will also touch on the financial model that supports this development and how this will enable an increased conservation commitment.
