Professional Bio

Dr. Tiffany Kosch is a Senior Research Fellow at the University of Melbourne and the Director of the Amphibian Genomics Consortium (AGC). She pioneered Targeted Genetic Intervention (TGI), a conservation strategy that applies genetic tools to help species adapt to persistent threats like climate change and disease. Since earning her PhD from East Carolina University (USA) in 2012, Tiffany has held research fellowships at Massey University (NZ), James Cook University (AUS), and Seoul National University (KOR). Tiffany’s research integrates conservation genomics, synthetic biology, quantitative genetics, and animal breeding to enhance species adaptation and resilience. Her work primarily focuses on improving reintroduction outcomes for Australian frogs threatened by chytridiomycosis, including the functionally extinct Southern Corroboree frog. She is actively exploring the potential of TGI strategies—such as CRISPR-Cas9 gene editing and genomic selection—to establish self-sustaining populations of threatened frogs. Tiffany is also working with social scientists to explore public perceptions of using TGI in conservation. She aims to leverage these insights to inform the development of guidelines and safety protocols, ensuring that TGI is applied responsibly and transparently.
