Rachel has 18+ years’ experience working in zoos, museums and conservation NGOs in Australia, the United Kingdom and Aotearoa New Zealand – including the Zoological Society of London (ZSL), Natural History Museum of London, and Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa, and is presently the General Manager of the National Aquarium of New Zealand. She has a BSc (Hons) Zoology, Masters (MSc) in Marine Science, and Post Graduate Certificate in Primary Education (PGCE). She is chair of ZAA’s Conservation Engagement Committee, Oceania representative for the International Zoo Educators Association (IZE) and trustee for local conservation charity Biodiversity Hawke’s Bay (BHB). A published author of natural history children’s books, including the Nature Activity Book and Beach Activity Book (Te Papa Press) and Kaewa the Kororā (Massey University Press). She’s passionate about supporting people to foster their connection to the natural world.
