Professional Bio

Paula Cerdán is a biologist from Barcelona, currently serving as the Head of Conservation and Animal Welfare at WAZA. She holds a Master’s degree in Behaviour and Cognition and has been with WAZA since 2019. In her role, Paula supports key WAZA committees, including the Conservation and Environmental Sustainability Committee (CESC), the Ethics and Animal Welfare Committee (EAWC), and the Committee for Population Management (CPM).

Paula has played a pivotal role in implementing WAZA’s 2023 Animal Welfare Goal and has actively been involved in developing and implementing WAZA’s 2027 Population Management Goal and the upcoming 2030 Conservation Goal.

In her work, Paula focuses on bringing together the global network of leading zoos and aquariums to create frameworks that allow this community to advance, collectively, the way that we act and think about our work as conservation organisations.
